Digital Nomad Residency in Andorra: Complete Guide 2026

By Agora Consultors

If you work remotely and are considering moving to Andorra, you have probably read a dozen pages repeating the same thing. Here you will find something different: the real procedure, exact figures, and common mistakes. Let’s start with a fact most get wrong: the digital nomad residency in Andorra does not require 183 days of physical presence, only 90 days.

What is the Digital Nomad Residency and Who is it For?

It is an immigration permit (created by Law 42/2022) designed for foreigners who do not need a specific geographic location to work and rely on telecommunications. Your situation must fit into one of these three profiles:

  • An employee hired by a company based in another country.
  • A self-employed professional providing services to non-residents of Andorra.
  • A self-employed professional working for a foreign company in which they hold shares or act as an administrator.

Requirements and the 2-Phase Procedure

This residency is processed through two different administrations. This is where most information gets confusing:

Phase 1: Ministry of Economy

Before dealing with Immigration, you need a favorable resolution certifying your work is 100% remote. You must submit an application, a sworn statement (A.5.1), and have a NIA (identification number). Warning: Describing your activity vaguely (e.g., “I use a computer and the internet”) is a common cause for rejection. You must detail the specific technology used.

Phase 2: Immigration Service

Once approved, you apply for residency. Key requirements include:

  • Financial means: Annual income exceeding 300% of the current minimum wage, plus 100% for each dependent.
  • Private insurance: Health and disability coverage valid in Andorra.
  • Housing: Property ownership or a rental agreement.
  • Commitment: A signed commitment to reside effectively for at least 90 days/year.

*Note: After approval, you have 3 months to register with the local Comú (parish council). Failure to do so automatically cancels your permit.

How Much Does It Cost?

Unlike passive residency, the digital nomad permit does not require any investment or AFA deposit. The official fees are very low:

  • Phase 1 (Economy): No fee.
  • Medical check-up: €5.73.
  • Residency authorization: €190.96.
  • Total official fees: €196.69 (plus costs for sworn translations, apostilles, and private insurance).

Duration, Renewals, and Social Security

The initial permit is for 2 years. The general regime renews for 2 years, then 3 years, and reaches a 10-year permit by year 7. However, nationals of Spain, France, and Portugal have an advantage: their first renewal is for 3 years, reaching the 10-year permit after just 5 years.

Additionally, digital nomads are not required to contribute to the CASS (Andorran Social Security), as the law explicitly excludes those who must carry comprehensive private insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this automatically make me a tax resident?

No. An immigration permit requiring 90 days does not equal an automatic shift in tax residency (which usually requires 183+ days or economic core interests). They are separate matters.

Can I work for Andorran clients?

No. You can only invoice or work for clients abroad. Local lucrative activities require a different permit.

At Àgora Consultors, we handle the entire two-phase process for you. Contact us and we will analyze if your profile fits the legal requirements before you incur any expenses.
